Hundreds attended the landmark outreach at Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, as the Initiative delivered free medical care,  reading glasses, and humanitarian food support — made possible in part through the generous sponsorship of Madam Joy Uwaemenyo of Amaraku community. OWERRI, IMO STATE, NIGERIA — June 27, 2026 The Sprinkle Life of Hope Initiative concluded a landmark two-day free medical outreach on the 25th and 26th of June, 2026, at No. 4 Archdeacon Denis Street, Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, Imo State — an event that left an indelible mark on the lives of hundreds of community members who received free healthcare,  reading glasses, and vital food relief, all at no cost. The outreach, organised under the leadership of Dr. Ugorji Chinedu, Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Initiative, was a powerful demonstration of compassion in action — bringing together medical professionals, volunteers, faith communities, and generous partners to serve the most vulnerable in Imo State. Medical Care for All — Free of Charge Over the course of two full days, a team of qualified medical professionals provided comprehensive pre-medical and general medical services to all who attended — with no registration fee, no consultation charge, and no conditions attached. Services included thorough medical consultations, personalised health assessments, and free medical treatment for a wide range of common ailments. Queues formed early on both mornings, with patients arriving from across Owerri and neighbouring communities. Mothers brought young children. The elderly came supported by family members and church groups. Young adults came on behalf of relatives too frail to travel. The response from the community was overwhelming, and the medical team attended to each patient with care, attention, and professionalism. Speaking at the event, Dr. Ugorji Chinedu said: “Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Every life has value. Every person in this community deserves to be seen, to be heard, and to be treated with dignity. That is what we came here to do — and that is what we will continue to do.” Reading Glasses — Giving Elders Their World Back Among the most poignant moments of the outreach was the distribution of specially treated reading glasses to elderly members of the community — a service that proved profoundly life-changing for many recipients. Scores of elderly men and women received carefully selected reading glasses, many of whom had been unable to read clearly for months or years due to deteriorating eyesight and a lack of access to affordable optical care. For several recipients, the moment of receiving their glasses — and being able to read clearly once again — was deeply emotional. A number of beneficiaries were able to read from their Bibles for the first time in years. Several wept openly. One elderly woman, after placing her new glasses on and opening the Scriptures she had carried to the event, read aloud from the Psalms — to the quiet applause and moved responses of those around her. The reading glasses programme underscored the Initiative’s commitment to serving the whole person — not only treating acute illness but restoring everyday capability, independence, and dignity to those who have been marginalised by poverty and age. Food Relief — Rice, Food Items & Wrappers for the Vulnerable In a powerful extension of the outreach beyond medicine, the Sprinkle Life of Hope Initiative also coordinated the distribution of food relief items and wrappers to vulnerable members of the community attending the event. Beneficiaries received bags of rice, essential food items, and fabric wrappers — practical, meaningful support that addressed immediate material need alongside healthcare. This dimension of the outreach was made possible through the generous and heartfelt sponsorship of Madam Joy Amaraku, a compassionate community benefactor whose contribution ensured that no one who came in need left empty-handed. “When I heard about this outreach, my heart was moved. These are our mothers, our fathers, our brothers and sisters. They should not have to choose between eating and getting medical care. Community & Church Response The outreach attracted robust participation from churches, faith communities, and the general public across Owerri. Pastors mobilised their congregations; community leaders encouraged attendance through their networks; and word spread rapidly from family to family in the days leading up to the event. The atmosphere across both days was one of warmth, gratitude, and hope. Volunteers — many of them young people giving their time freely — worked tirelessly alongside medical professionals to ensure every attendee was attended to, every item distributed with care, and every person treated with respect.
